With deep gratitude WhyHunger gives special thanks to Yoko Ono Lennon for playing a vital role in our Hungerthon tradition. Eighteen years ago, Mrs. Lennon generously allowed WhyHunger to use Imagine There’s No Hunger, along with John Lennon’s self-portrait and signature, as our Hungerthon theme and logo. Since 2008, WhyHunger has joined forces with Hard Rock International to create IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER, a global campaign to combat childhood hunger and poverty around the world. With the support of Mrs. Lennon, we have raised more than $4.5 million dollars to help communities grow
enough food to provide more than 5.5 million meals to children in 15 different countries and teach thousands of others techniques for sustained food production for a future free of hunger.
Proceeds from the campaign are invested in WhyHunger’s global anti-hunger and poverty work, specifically their grassroots partners operating on the ground in countries around the world, including Kenya; Thailand; India, Haiti and the USA . This year, donations to the Imagine There’s No Hunger campaign will also go to support WhyHunger’s long-time partners in the New York and New Jersey area post Hurricane Sandy. These organizations are on the front lines, providing food, water and critical services to their neighbors in the aftermath of the storm and aiding in their long-term recovery. Area partners include Added Value in Red Hook, Brooklyn and the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
To launch this year’s imagine campaign, Yoko Ono Lennon will join Hard Rock and WhyHunger to call upon everyONE around the globe to take a moment to Imagine a nourished world free from hunger, where “the world will live as One.” Fans can purchase a limited-edition bracelet, and on Monday, November 19th at 1 p.m. local time, visit celebrations at various Hard Rock locations around the globe, tweet, post, or even text the word
to donate $10 to WhyHunger and help feed a hungry child. Be it ONE bracelet, ONE thought, ONE tweet/post or ONE visit to Hard Rock locations worldwide, we can make a difference ONE child at a time to ensure that no ONE goes hungry again.
We are most grateful to Yoko Ono Lennon and Hard Rock International for their continued generosity and support resulting in changing the lives of children all around the world.
“By Imagining there’s no hunger, like what John sang in his song, we express our strong desire to bring a world in which children will never again suffer from hunger or poverty.” – Yoko Ono Lennon
